Apple unveils top iTunes and App Store picks

Photo-sharing app Instagram and iPad picture-editing app Snapseed were Apple's top-sellers in its App Store in 2011, highlighting the continuing popularity of smartphones and tablets.

The technology giant published its iTunes Rewind 2011 report in Australia today (Dec 9), identifying the most popular purchases made through iTunes and the App Store.

In terms of top-selling music, Adele's 21 was named as the album of the year, while the top song spot was taken by Goyte (featuring Kimbra) for Somebody That I Used to Know.

iPhone and iPad users can download apps and music right to their devices with just a few taps on the screen - but without the right data plan in place, this can add up on your monthly bill.

If you are curious about whether or not you are on the best mobile plan, you might want to investigate alternatives with a switching service.

Key things to consider include the type of handset or tablet you have and how you use it - depending on your habits, you may want to make changes to either your voice or data plans to help save money in the long-term.
